To My Teacher Next Year,

My sophomore year of English has been a big stepping stone for me because it has been my first year in an honors English class. Next year I plan to take honors American Literature which is the class that is in connection with AP History. In English this year I learned how to take on the extra responsibilities that come with the honors class, which will prove to be helpful to me next year when I take on more responsibility as a junior. With the addition of AP History I am going to need to be able to manage my time, and the heavy work load I got this year in an honors class is going to help me meet year in yours.

The digital portfolio that I created this year, was one my projects that I am most proud of. I spent numerous hours trying to get my webpage to a perfection, and I would love to expand on that next year. Another advantage to the digital portfolio is that at the end of the year most of the work is already post, so that there is not a heavy work load at the end of the year. With the digital portfolio I spaced out my time throughout the year on my final project, opposed to having to do all of it at the end of the year. The digital portfolio is more practical in that sense, and it also prepares us for the business world in the future. The world is run by computers, and teaching us how to use them to their full extent will prepare us for college, and a career in the future. Last of all continuing the digital portfolio will give me an opportunity to look back and see how my writing has improved throughout my high school years.

My expectations for next years class is that I continue to grow as a reader, writer, listener, viewer, and speaker. I am going into an honors class next year, so I expect to get the same work load that I did last year, probably even greater because this year has prepared me to tackle many more assignments. This is the first time that I have been in an American Literature class, so I would like to be introduced to many of the great American writers, both men and women. I would also like to see a variety of time periods and settings of the books, so that I am able to understand how writing evolved in this country. I also expect to be challenged with assignments in the way that they force me to not just write, but to become part of the piece that I am creating, and develop my own style and personality within my writing.

Over the summer I plan to prepare myself for the class that awaits me as much as possible. During the summer I plan to read a variety of books, including some that would be found on the requested reading list. Also this summer I am going to Japan for the first time. Since I am going to be studying American literature next year, what I see and observe in another country could help me compare the American writers to the ones of another country. It will also give me a taste of another culture, that will help me understand the one I am studying better next year.

I look forward to the school year ahead. I will acquire knowledge of the writing of our American culture, and see how that has effected Americans writers now. I would highly recommend the continuation of digital portfolio because he will cut down on the end of the year work load, as well as prepare us for our future careers. I will continue my English education over the summer through a variety of books, so that I come into next year’s classroom well read, and knowledgeable.
